So the coastal tour of South America has come to an end for us. This tour is always very different from other junior circuits in that you really do become a big traveling family of tennis players and coaches sharing numerous flights, bus journeys, meals, check-ins, check-outs and of course matches against different members of the different teams.

Hi all, Jez here from Argentina on the first leg of the coast tour of South America. I have done this tour four times before and it’s always been one of my favourite trips. The way of life and energy over here is really special and it never fails to provide some interesting moments - just like the time five years ago I was woken up from a peaceful sleep at 3 am to the sound of drumming and on investigating (as you do at that time of the morning) I soon realised that it was the first day of Brazilian carnival.

Hi all,

Jez here from a very hot and sweaty Paraguay. The heat here is as I remember from a few years ago, brutal. Ilija has played some very strong matches over the last two weeks. He lost last week in the quarters after beating the No. 2 under-18 Argentine in a 3-and-a-half-hour marathon. This is exactly why we are here, these type of matches in these conditions form top tennis players, there is no other way to win out here but to fight and to be prepared to compete for as long as it takes.

Cycling Up Five Mountains!

Hi all,

Well I’m happy to report that the players made it through the training week and the girls even had a day off today to rest their aching limbs (and minds). The guys have the pre-qualifying for the Delray Beach tour event over the weekend and so far in their first three rounds no one has lost so that is a great start. Up for grabs for the winner of the tournament is a wildcard for qualifying into the prestigious tour event that has been played by Agassi, Roddick, Blake and Haas to name but a few so is a great opportunity to earn the right to be around some of the top players. Only 3 rounds more to go so I will keep you posted.

Coach McEnroe Saves the Day

Hi all,

Firstly I have to start by commenting on the bizarre start to the day. I have still been hunting for a good standard track on which to torture (I mean scientifically train of course) the players and it has been tough. That is until this morning when I approached a local high school that had a proper rubberised track and asked if I could use it with our team. I was getting a rather vague reaction until fate smiled on me and the athletics coach happened to walk in and after a brief introduction offered us full use of his facilities…and his name…Coach McEnroe! No joke, Coach McEnroe and a distant cousin of the legend himself no less. Now of course this HAD to be a good day.
